Cat Owners and Pregnancy

Toxoplasmosis, an infection caused by a parasite, can be contracted by contact with cat feces. It often causes either mild flu-like symptoms or no symptoms at all. If a woman contracts this parasite while she is pregnant, though, she can pass this on to the baby. While the likelihood of contracting the illness is very low and the likelihood of passing this to baby is even lower, we recommend that anyone who has an indoor cat not change the cat’s litter box secondary to the risk of developing toxoplasmosis.
