What are the benefits of minimally invasive surgery?

According to the American Congress for Obstetricians and Gynecologists, “Robotic surgery is not the only or the best minimally invasive approach for hysterectomy. Nor is it the most cost-efficient. It is important to separate the marketing hype from the reality when considering the best surgical approach for hysterectomies.” The American Institute for Minimally Invasive Surgery agrees, “Patients who experience minimally invasive procedures suffer less pain and blood loss, with fewer complications and a faster recovery time.”

At Aventa Specialized Women’s Care, we are dedicated to helping you make the right decision. As recommended by the ACOG and AIMIS, our practice focuses on laparoscopic and vaginal surgery as the best surgical options for our patients.

What is the best surgical option?

Vaginal hysterectomy, performed through a small opening at the top of the vagina without any abdominal incisions, is the least invasive and least expensive option. Based on its well-documented advantages and low complication rates, this is the procedure of choice whenever possible. When this approach is not possible, laparoscopic hysterectomy is the second least invasive and costly option for patients.
